Gear Box and Transfer case Oil Change Needed: 14mm socket 24mm socket 14mm ring/open ended spanner Approx 5l engine oil. (I found 20W-50 oil gives perfect results rather than the 15W-40 I use in the engine.) Method Remove the guard from under the transfer case. 4X14mm bolts. The ones that go into the chassis may have crud on the threads and be hard to shift. The front right one might be recessed too far to get a socket onto it. Put some grease or some such on the ones that go back into the chassis when reassembling. For next time. Drain plug for transfer case is obvious (24mm bolt on bottom). Drain plug for gear box is on the end of the gear case, on the left side (facing forwards). Refill plug for transfer case is on the right side (also 24mm bolt) and has cramped access. The exhaust (and shield) as well as the speedometer drive get in the way. This is why you need to drop the transfer case guard. Refill plug for the gear box is on the right side, access is reasonable but the front drive from the transfer case and the exhaust get in the way.
