socket: Socket - FireFox Instructions Socket FireFox Instructions Using Firefox, Opera and other web browsers with this website The first time you access this website using FireFox, Opera or other browsers you will probably receive a warning message about unknown certificates. To prevent this message from appearing in future, you will need to install the Cardiff Root Certificate. FireFox instructions: Download the Cardiff Root Certificate to your computer. In FireFox, choose Tools->Options. (On Mac OS X, choose Firefox->Preferences...) In the new window that appears, choose the Advanced option on the left-hand side. In the right-hand part of the window, look for Certificates, then press Manage Certificates. In the new Certificate Manager window, select Authorities at the top, then press the Import... button. Choose the cardiff.pem file that you downloaded in step 1. In the new Downloading Certificate window, you will need to select the option Trust this CA to identify web sites. You are recommended to select the other two options, and also to view the certificate, to verify its authenticity. The serial number of the certificate is 02:14:11:E9:7F:EE:00:F7:E8:69:6E:CC:11:F0:2B:93:B1:84:CB:E4:8B:EA:02:02:05:E8. When you have chosen the required options, press OK. To check that the certificate has been installed successfully, look through the list of Authorities for UK-AC-JCCS. The procedure for other web browsers is similar. You can view instructions for Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator and Opera here. © Cardiff University Network Services Team 2004 - 2021
