This may also include students performing as audio/video recording or photography assistants, or art gallery monitors. Positions may require specific skills and/or training and familiarity with various equipment and processes. Must be capable of working independently or as part of a team, have excellent communication skills and work well with other students, staff, and faculty. G-101 7017 Graduate-Facilities Assistant The graduate facilities assistant will assist in providing operational assistance to the hiring department, unit or school. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: setting up and dismantling banquet tables and chairs for events; packing and unpacking boxes; moving boxes and other items as directed; preparing mailings and delivering mail and packages; receiving, inventorying and distributing supplies and other items; staffing information desk; running errands around campus; other duties as needed. The facilities assistant must be able to climb stairs, navigate the Pittsburgh campus on foot, and be capable of pushing, pulling, lifting approximately 25 pounds. G-101 7018 Graduate-Library Assistant The Library Assistant is responsible for using the library system for various tasks, including checking library materials in and out, processing new materials and interlibrary loan requests, as well as sorting and shelving, stacks maintenance, assisting library users, monitoring facilities and equipment and maintaining order, packing and unpacking boxes, and related tasks as assigned. Must be reliable, able to work independently and with colleagues, be detail-oriented and organized, lift books and push book trucks, and communicate in a professional manner. G-101 7019 Graduate-Office Assistant The graduate office assistant works within administrative and academic departments. Responsibilities include greeting individuals who visit the office area, providing information, answering the telephone, running errands, and performing some basic word processing and data entry. Related general office tasks as assigned. Must be capable of working independently, be organized, and communicate in a professional and cordial manner. G-101 7025 Graduate-Events Assistant The graduate events assistant is responsible for working on various events across campus or in other local venues. Positions could be responsible for setup and tear down of equipment and facilities for athletic events including football practices, home/away games, track & field practice, swim meet management, etc. May also be responsible for setup and teardown of equipment and facilities for various musical ensemble rehearsals and performances, or serving as ushers for musical or theatrical performances. Students may also be responsible for officiating/supervising intramural events conducted on or off campus which require students to resolve conflicts organize intramural events and ensuring participant adherence to policies and procedures of the program. In addition, students may be responsible for working with various outside client groups to plan, organize & coordinate events across campus. G-102 7016 Graduate-IT Services Associate The graduate IT Service Associate is responsible for performing common support tasks including: moving and setting up hardware, installing operating systems and software, interacting with and assisting users; troubleshooting software and hardware problems. Must be capable of working independently, be organized, and communicate in a professional and cordial manner. G-102 7021 Graduate-Web/Graphic Designer The graduate web/graphic designer is responsible for designing, creating and maintaining websites, artwork, photography and documents such as flyers, programs and advertisements . The position requires design, programming and database analysis skills, imagination, creativity and time management. Must be reliable, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and able to carry a project from beginning to end. Must be able to communicate in a professional manner and work well with faculty and staff. Experience with ASP, JSP, Java, MS Access, Oracle, DB Design, HTML, VBScript & JavaScript may be required. G-102 7027 Graduate - Lifeguard The graduate lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons by preventing & responding to emergencies. The lifeguard will exhibit knowledge and application of lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques and understand facility policies and procedures. Current required certifications: ARC or YMCA lifeguard training ARC Standard First Aid & CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED Training. G-102 7031 Graduate - Office Assistant Lead The Graduate Office Assistant, Lead is a senior level Office Assistant which may be responsible for directing/coordinating the work of other student office assistants. Lead assistants may also be responsible for performing the same responsibilities as the undergraduate office assistants. G-102 7032 Graduate - Library Assistant Lead The Graduate Library Assistant, Lead is a senior level Library Assistant which may be responsible for directing/coordinating the work of other student Library Assistants. G-102 7036 Graduate - Peer Mentor The Graduate Peer Mentor is a student employee who works with, and assists, their peers with program specific services, performs outreach activities, and sponsors and facilitates events. Peer mentors have been specifically trained and have the skills, competencies, and expertise needed to assist their peers at all levels with their needs. G-103 7011 Graduate-Hourly Research Job The graduate research assistant is an enrolled CMU student performing research functions. Research assistants work with faculty members in the hiring faculty member's area of expertise. Research Assistants may assist faculty with developing curriculum, identifying and obtaining source material and data, exploring current trends, interacting with individuals in private industry, government, and/or non- profit organizations. RA's may organize materials, gather and analyze data, create draft and edit documents, prepare bibliographies, etc. In addition the RA may assist in the development & execution of research projects including experiment design, analysis of data & write up of results. Students must be organized, detail-oriented and have the ability to perform statistical analysis. Position may require specific computer and/or statistical proficiency. G-103 7012 Graduate-Hourly Teaching Job The graduate teaching assistant is responsible for performing teaching assistant duties under the direction of the course instructor. Duties could include grading homework & exams, conducting review sessions, etc. G-103 7020 Graduate-Resident Assistant The graduate Resident Assistant job is divided into five roles: Educator, Peer Advisor, Community Role Model, Emergency Responder, and Administrator. Key student leaders who help advance the vision and mission of the Division of Student Affairs in the areas of artistic and intellectual curiosity, personal well being, professional competency, leadership development, and engagement in and contribution to the larger community. Must have a commitment to the enhancement of the quality of residential life at Carnegie Mellon and a strong belief in the potential the residential experience has to affect students and to complement their academic experience. G-103 7022 Graduate-Tutor The graduate tutor is responsible for tutoring students on an individual or group basis. A strong academic background in the subjects to be tutored is required. G-103 7023 Graduate-Grader The graduate grader will be responsible for the timely completion and grading of assigned papers, projects, exams, etc. All grading assignments will be at the direction of the class instructor/professor. Strong attention to detail is required for this role. G-103 7028 Graduate-Community Advisor The Graduate Community Advisor partners with a professional Housefellow to provide overall leadership for the vision, direction and daily activity within one of the residential house communities on campus. The CA is responsible for developing a strong sense of community among house residents, facilitating resident involvement in the life of the house, and fostering an environment in the house which enhances the personal and academic success of all who live there. Toward this end, the CA provides leadership to a team of Resident Assistants who provide resources and support to all residents while maintaining community standards and offering individual and group opportunities for personal growth. Page 2 of 3 G-103 7030 Graduate-IT Services Associate Lead The Graduate IT Services Associate, Lead is a senior level IT Services Associate which may be responsible for directing/coordinating the work of other student IT Services Associates. Lead Associates may also be responsible for performing the same responsibilities as the IT Services Associates. G-104 7024 Graduate -Student Instructor The graduate student instructor is responsible for demonstrating techniques and methods of participation while ensuring the safety of patron for various programs across campus. May include athletics, college of fine arts, music preparatory, etc. Act 153 clearances may be required. G-104 7033 Graduate - Engineering Technician The Graduate Engineering Technician is responsible for performing general engineering assignments under direct supervision related to the design, testing, installation and modification of equipment, processes or structures. The engineering technician contributes to the development & modification of operating protocols/procedures and assists in identifying operating or installation problems and recommends design modifications or solutions. G-104 7034 Graduate - Programmer/Coder The Graduate Programmer/Coder is responsible for modifying and/or developing applications or systems programs from well-defined specifications or instructions. The Programmer/Coder may also code, test, debug, document and maintain programs. In addition the programmer/coder may be responsible for developing experimental research applications and/or modify existing software for specific research applications. G-104 7037 Graduate - Writer The graduate writer is responsible for developing content for both web & print publication. Examples of communications/stories could include articles featuring students in a department, award or other announcements & smaller feature articles. The graduate writer will collaborate with other students, staff & faculty in the development of story ideas & must have the ability to distill information into a format that is accessible and interesting to the target audience. This is a writing intensive position & the student will be expected to meet deadlines, collaborate & not require intensive supervision. Graduate Student Ungraded 7029 Graduate-Off Hours/Premium Secondary Position This is a secondary graduate position used for students working off hours and/or premium shifts. Off hours are determined by functional area, i.e. housing off hours are from Midnight-8:00 AM, 7 days per week. An off hours/premium secondary position can be used in any department that pays a different rate of pay for off hours/premium shifts; examples include Housing, CUC & Libraries. Page 3 of 3
