You cannot take the course without this book. Come to the introductory lecture on Wednesday 22 September, 15:00–15:50, in AT Lecture Theatre 3. In case you missed it, here are the slides from the Introductory Lecture. Register for the course with the ITO. Even if you just wish to attend the course without credit, you should register with the ITO since course-related emails and PeerWise registration information are sent to everyone on the ITO's list. Come to one of the two demonstration sessions, where we introduce the PeerWise system on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 September, 11:10–12:00, in AT 5.05. Please make sure that you can log on to DICE, the Informatics computer system, before coming to one of these sessions! You can obtain your DICE login details from the ITO in AT4.02. Choose your Lab Group on mysignup.com. Once you're on the course list we'll send you a PeerWise IJP registration code and instructions. Sign up to PeerWise. Get BlueJ installed on your computer. BlueJ is the development environment that we use; it is very closely aligned to the course textbook. Here are some instructions for installing BlueJ under DICE, the Informatics computer system. Download the book projects from the Objects First with Java web site, and unpack them on your computer. Every chapter in the book uses a number of example projects, so you'll work through every single one of these by the end of the course. Start coming to lab sessions. You should read the relevant chapter of the book and/or watch the associated video before the lab session, and try out the exercises linked from the schedule. That way you'll have plenty of questions to ask the demonstrators, and, if you've worked through enough of the book, you will be able to work on your assignment during the lab. We hope you enjoy the course!
