First, ensure you have the latest version of Java installed. You can download it here: https://www.java.com/en/download/ If Gephi still won’t open, even though you have the latest version of Java, try the following. Find the Notepad program, right-click on it, and choose “Run as administrator” Inside Notepad, go to File > Open… and find a file called “gephi.config”. For example, it may be located here: C:\Program Files\Gephi-0.9.2\etc In order for the file to be visible, it may be necessary to click where it says Text Documents (*.txt) and change this in the dropdown menu to All Files. Look within gephi.config for the following text: default location of JDK/JRE, can be overridden by using --jdkhome
switch #jdkhome="/path/to/jdk"# You need to replace the bit within quotes that reads /path/to/jdk with the location of your Java folder. Yours may differ depending on where you have it installed; for example, it may be here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_201 You also need to delete the # symbol directly before jdkhome. The text should now read as follows (depending on your Java folder location): default location of JDK/JRE, can be overridden by using --jdkhome switch jdkhome="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_201" Save the document, and then try and open Gephi again. If you’re not having any joy, an alternative method which may also work is to leave the text of the config file unaltered, and just add the following line at the start: jdkhome="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_201" (again with whatever your Java folder location is).
