This company helped their customers to attain economic knowledge of the major fractions of biomass while being able to include the minor components that are able to be operationalized into high-value specialty goods. 8VA Corporation In the ISURP: October 1995 - October 1998 8VA Corporation was a part of the research park in October 1995 - October 1998. This company developed a proprietary injection-molding process, or PMIM, to turn powdered metal into small, high-precision parts, traditionally made by a machine. By doing this, 8VA Corporation would turn metal and ceramic powders into net shapes. 8VA produced highly efficient, low cost electronic heat sinks in complex shapes that were needed as a proprietary application for this process. Acumen Instruments Corporation In the ISURP: 1999 - January 2020 Acumen Instruments Corporation just recently left the research park. They were a part of it from 1999 - January 2020. This company specialized in technologies used for data collection, storage, and analysis. They have also developed a technology called DataBridge and the product called DataBridge SDR that is based on this technology. DataBridge technology is a revolutionary technique for linking instruments with convenient, affordable, off-the-shelf consumer storage devices. It is used to record process monitoring data, store high-volume data generated by GPS reference stations, log industrial sensor outputs, monitor air quality, and store data from medical diagnostic equipment in factories and laboratories to forest canopies and Antarctic mountaintops. Adapt Data Solutions In the ISURP: February 2009 - September 2009 Adapt Data Solutions, or ADS, was in the research park for a short period of time, from February 2009 - September 2009. This company provided web-based data management solutions to other organizations. They specialized in creating databases in a fraction of time and at a lower cost than its competitors. Farmchen Corporation is a leader in remote inventory management services for herbicide, fertilizer, and petroleum tanks for the US and Canada in agricultural markets. Agridat uses a remote automated management network called RAMNET. This network receives inventory and geothermal information from the herbicide, fertilizer, and petroleum tanks. Agwizard.com is an internet research and development division of Farmchen Corporation in Floyd, Iowa. This company maintains an interactive web portal that will serve all facets of the agricultural community, like manufactures, distributors, retailers, and growers. Agwizard.com has a mission to determine what dynamics of e-commerce can be utilized to best serve the needs of the agricultural sector. This company wanted to focus on developing the scalable, web-based components that are enhanced for use with high-end parallel database systems. ATC Environmental (Formerly known as RE Blattert & Associates) In the ISURP: November 1990 - May 1994 ATC Environmental, Inc was in the research park from November 1990 - May 1994. This company was an environmental, engineering, and geologic consulting company. Consultants’ that work for ATC have experiences that range from assessment and investigation of a problem to project design and management in geotechnical, water resource, computer modeling, and solid and hazardous waste management environments.. ATEGO (Formerly Aonix & NewMonics, Inc.) In the ISURP: March 1998 - December 2003 From 1998 - December 2003, ATEGO was a part of the research park. This company is building PERC, or Portable Executive for Reliable Control, a clean-room implementation of the Java programming language system that is designed for embedding real-time programming. PERC allows you to characterize an application’s maximum total dynamic memory needs and the rates at which memory must be allocated and garbage collected in order to reliably execute the application. PERC allows programmers to specify the periodic execution of real-time tasks and provides support to analyze the time required to execute tasks in the local environment. PERC provides much more reliable execution than is possible with the traditional Java implementations in the embedded real-time domain. This was an agricultural biotechnology company focused on developing and the commercialization of corn and other grain that add value to end use processes. This company primarily targeted animal feed, industrial uses, and pharmaceutical appliceutical applications. BASF had a brand that improved the digestibility of the corn in the animal feed by increasing the amount of oil, protein and essential amino acids in the molecular structure of the kernel. Biotronics also strives to branch into a servicing company for the interpretation of livestock ultrasound images using high quality personnel and computer-based sophisticated image processing algorithms and technology. Biotronics also helped to train and continue the education of all aspects of capturing and interpretation of meat traits using real time ultrasound technologies. CII brought together interdisciplinary research teams and industrial partners. This company was a spin-off of Biova, LLC and was created to research, develop, manufacture technologies for metabolic enhancement of the enzymes and bacteria used in the fermentation industry. ETREMA Products, Inc. In the ISURP: June 1993 - June 2016 Contact Person: 515-296-8030 ETREMA Products, Inc. was in the research park for 23 years: from June 1993 to June 2016! This company conducted research, development and manufactured products that utilized the magneto strictive alloy. This product was called TERFENOL-D and ETREMA was the only facility in the world that was able to produce commercial quantities of this product. TERFENOL- D had been designed for sonar, but it also had characteristics that made it useful for actuators, transducers, vibration control, and micropositioning. Engineers at ETREMA Products, Inc also helped customers with the development of sonar transducers on torpedoes, downhole tools that increase oil production, valves, injectors for the automobile industry, and relinage of sewer and water pipelines. Fox Engineering was a full service consulting engineering firm that provided services in environmental engineering, civil engineering, surveying, and land development. This company added an office in the research park to allow for an expansion in the environmental department. This department contributed to conventional services related to water and wastewater treatment systems and sold waste disposal projects into the area of leaking underground storage tanks and cleanup, pre-purchase environmental assessments of property, and land development in the company. This company has been able to isolate a number of compounds and have tested crude preparations in both animal productions systems and in cell culture. Glycomyr, Inc competed with other companies because they were able to identify raw plant materials with robust bioactivity and synthesized analogs of those compounds that were being used to develop multiple applications and products to improve animal and human health. This company was created to market intellectual property of different inventions and innovations. Glycon created a new limited liability company, which it licensed the right to four patents. Two of the patents pertained to the automotive industry while the others are in the medical and shark repellent/wetsuit industries. The first product that Glycon produced was an electric field shark repellent wetsuit. It incorporated apparatus and methods into clothing or worn articles; components which produce electrical energy based on mechanical stress, movement, or pressure making the electrical energy available for use in storage. These components created electrical fields around the user to help repel sharks. This company analyzed different connection and communication needs and developed novel and powerful tools for defined market segments. This company had two subsidiaries called Griffle and Axiode. Griffle was dedicated to providing powerful connectors and connection analysis tools to musicians and bands. Axiode utilized the same underlying technology to make connections in the area of Interaction Design (IXD). It focused on the process of designing digital and physical interfaces for a wide range of social systems. Website Iowa Lighting, Inc. In the ISURP: September 1994 - December 1995 From September 1994 to December 1995, Iowa Lighting, Inc. was a part of the research park. This company was established to research, design, build, and market an artificial window. This window used technology, advanced lighting and multi-dimensional graphics to simulate lifelike scenes. It can be used to reflect whatever the changing outside lighting level and pattern that the user desires. By creating this outdoor appearance, this artificial window was used to alter the mood of the individual exposed to it in a positive manner. Website IPAX Group (Formerly ImmerXion XED Solutions) In the ISURP: June 2001 - April 2002 IPAX Group was only in the research for 10 months from June 2001 - April 2002. This company provided key software development solutions and technical training primarily for the information technology and financial services fields. They developed tools and components critical to the advancement of electronic data exchange. IPAX Group promoted the automation of software development and testing processes, and develops software and infrastructure prototypes. It also developed and provided technical training and lifetime learning opportunities for the advancement of IT and accounting professionals. Kingland Systems Corporation In the ISURP: February 2001 - August 2004 Contact Person: 515-268-7020 Kingland Systems Corporation was a part of the research park from February 2001 to August 2004. This company still resides in Ames, just not in the research park. Kingland developed software solutions for mission critical needs primarily in the financial, regulatory compliance, and governmental markets. This company is a leading provider of front and middle- office retail securities automation solutions and back-office interfaces for medium to large securities, banking and insurance companies. Kingland owns a suite of software applications called Financial Network Systems, or FNS, that provide the trading platform, the compliance and suitability functions, commission processing and the marketing and management reports necessary to drive financial services business. The amis system is supported by both quantitative and qualitative data and enables to understand better farmers’ purchase behavior. Alongside its amis panel information, the full- service-company provided a broad portfolio of innovative and customized ad hoc research solutions to gather impartial data about the latest developments in the agricultural sector and helped clients to gain insights beneficial to achieve the full potential of their business. This company had its home office in the CyberInnovation Institute in the research park. Kung Pow Studios worked with clients in several states and across many different industries to provide custom 3-D graphics, Flash and web development, user-interface design, and graphic design solutions. Website Leading Edge Measurement Systems (LEMS) In the ISURP: July 2002 - January 2004 From July 2002 - January 2004, Leading Edge Measurement Systems, or LEMS, was a part of the research park. LEMS was spun out of Edge Technologies, Inc. to develop and market new measurement technology for the oil and gas industry. This company created a multiphase flow meter that will monitor the flow of liquid from an oil well and precisely determine the amount of oil, water, and natural gas contents in real time. This new meter will be installed at the well head or at the automated well test facility and is being developed through the integration of two technologies that have been developed through the integration of two technologies that had been developed for the Department of Defense and NASA. LEMS targeted major oil producing companies, each trying to get a more accurate picture of the actual output of their wells to better manage their production. LGI, Inc. (Lauridsen Group Inc.) (Formerly Proliant & AMPC, Inc.) In the ISURP: May 1989 - June 2004 Contact Person: 515-289-7600 LGI, Inc., or Lauridsen Group, Inc. manufactured and marketed protein products for the food, nutrition, human health, nutraceutical, diagnostic, life science research, biopharmaceutical and veterinary vaccine industries. LGI, Inc. is split into three divisions, each focused on specific market segments: Proliant Ingredients, Proliant Health, and Proliant Biologicals. Website LG Laboratories, Inc. In the ISURP: April 1998 - July 2000 Contact Person: 515-296-8030 LG Laboratories, Inc. was in the research park for under two years: from April 1998 - July 2000. This company was established to provide focus toward the research, development, and marketing of human health and nutritional supplements. Their product line consisted of nutritional supplements formulated with unique proteins derived from milk and plasma sources. These products were directed toward nutritional management and support of gastrointestinal health. This company provided technology and data mining services to the agricultural and veterinary sectors. Mach Enterprises provided technology support, resources, and data services to support research such as managing and delivering data to create 3-D images of animal’s anatomy and to evaluate the traits of a three-year vaccine compared to a one-year vaccine. MikeNGreg (Formerly Intuition Games) In the ISURP: May 2009 - April 2013 From May of 2009 to April 0f 2013, MikeNGreg had an independent game development collective in the research park. They developed new gameplay concepts by experimenting and pushing the boundaries of what games are or just creating something fun and unique. They employed an average of 4 people per year while at the research park. MICREL (Formerly Electronic Technology Corporation) In the ISURP: December 1988 - March 1998 MICREL was in the research park for a little under 10 years: December 1988 to March 1998. This company had a specialty in researching, developing, and selling application specific customized integrated circuits. MICREL had customers in the military and commercial market. The purpose of their office space in the ISU Research Park was so that they market and manufacture their product. Murphy-Brown Farms, Inc. (Formerly Murphy Family Farms, Inc. & Prestage Stoeker Farms, Inc) In the ISURP: January 1995 - November 1998 From January 1995 to November 1998, Murphy-Brown Farms, Inc. was a part of the research park. This was a family business with operations in Iowa, Missouri, and North Carolina. This company produced pork for consumers worldwide. My Online Camp In the ISURP: 2014 -2016 Contact Person: Don Myers: 515-598-9540 My Online Camp had an office in the research park for only 2 years. They were a leading marketing management and registration service for sports camps. They provided websites and online solutions for Coaches and Athletic Departments nationwide that wanted to set up youth sports camps. Website NuTech Seed, LLC In the ISURP: July 2013 - 2016 Contact Person: 1-888-647-3478 From July 2013-2016, NuTech Seed, LLC sold their premier seed brand in the research park. This company focused on providing farmers with the “Power to Outperform”. NuTech marketed high yielding disease tolerant products that when prescription placed can maximize profitability for our customers. They did this by merging together a diverse and advanced portfolio of traits and genetics from multiple suppliers. Website Our Iowa Magazine In the ISURP: April 2007 - April 2009 Contact Person: 515-232-0075 Our Iowa Magazine was in the research park from April 2007 to April 2009. This magazine was a bi-monthly magazine just for Iowans. It was unique because it was largely written by the readers. This allowed fellow Iowans to “talk to each other”, no matter if they lived in Iowa now or were a former Iowan. This magazine also included “photo tours” of Iowa land. Website Phytodyne, Inc. In the ISURP: October 2002 - July 2005 Contact Person: 515-296-5513 From October 2002 to July 2005, Phytodyne, Inc was developing unique proprietary technologies in the research park. This company produced technology for the biotechnology sector. Their technology helped to simplify the production of genetically modified crop plants and offer new methods for plant genome manipulation. From this, they were able to enable the production of valuable, proprietary germplasm. The three primary productions of phytodyne included RetroGene, a retroviral-based plant transformation system, GeneEditor, a technology that enabled specified DNA sequence modifications to be introduced into genomes of crop plants, and Chromosome Homing, a method to target DNA integration to specific sites within plant or animal chromosomes. They provided technology, consulting, research, and solutions to air quality in facilities. Prairie Foam Insulators worked to solve problems of energy conservation and indoor air quality, specifically radon and carbon monoxide in Iowa homes. It provided radon test kits and laboratory services to test residential and commercial buildings; and engaged in research projects with schools and communities to further education about environmental health issues. Website Publicish Healthcare Communications Group (Formerly iMed Studios & N8 Digital) In the ISURP: February 2000 - October 2006 Publicish Healthcare Communications Group was in the research park from February 2000 to October 2006. They developed medical and scientific multi-media for many of the top pharmaceutical, educational, and medical device companies in the world. Specifically, they developed interactive software for training and educational products for the pharmaceutical and medical device companies; physician and patient educational software materials; multimedia educational kiosks and exhibits for science museums; interactive software products for educational publishers in the health science markets; and Web sites and supporting content for health-related information delivered via the internet. RenovoWater Inc. In the ISURP: June 2011 - February 2012 Contact Person: Marc Salmon: 515-259-0784 Renovo Water, Inc. was in the research park from June 2011 to February 2012. They imported and distributed water filters and water coolers to consumers and businesses in Australia. This company was the certified public accounting firm for many business clients engaged in retail sales, manufacturing, construction, agricultural industries, professional service, as well as financial, educational, and non profit organizations. Schnurr & Company provide services of business and management consulting, accounting and auditing, taxation, and small business consulting. This company helped Research Park/ISS Tenants and Affiliates with general accounting references such as payroll tax requirements and deadlines, business start-up requirements, etc. Website Shell Shocked Sound (S3I) In the ISURP: July 2002 - April 2005 From July 2002 to April 2005, Shell Shocked Sound, S3I, was a part of the research. This company was a spin off of Edge Technologies and focused on developing and commercializing a new audio Folded Shell Speaker Technology (FSST) for the consumer electronic industry. The FSST technology is being developed under a license from the Canadian Defense Research Establishment Atlantic, DREA, which originally developed the technology for high-performance sonar systems. S3I’s focus was to make high-quality audio available in non- traditional environments. The unique speaker technology eliminates the need for expensive cabinets and other components. Soyzen U.S.A. Inc. In the ISURP: July 2005 - February 2006 From July 2005 to February 2006, Soyzen U.S.A, Inc. was a part of the research park. Soyzen was committed to becoming a leading global enterprise which provides health and happiness to mankind, through continuing development and improvement of new bioactive raw soy materials that was highly functional based on cutting-edge power engineering technology and biotechnology and with world-class R&D resources. In order to maximize the inherent effectiveness of phytochemicals contained in raw soybean which demonstrates weakness to heat and poor digestion (55%), Soyzen applied a two-phase, infrared-drying method, a two- phase, impact-crushing method at low temperature, and a nitrogen circulation method. This company conducted research in the areas of Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE), Optics and Optical systems, and Image Processing in collaboration with a number of research laboratories, companies, and Iowa State University. This company produced Terfeno I-D, Galfenol and related actuators. The global market for these products has developed over the past few decades developing multiple commercial applications now emerging in the marketplace. This company specialized in developing portable equipment for the broadcast industry. Telefax also developed innovative products such as audio routing switchers, signal enhancement systems for telecommunications lines, and cellular telephone equipment. Vista Bright Lighting sold energy efficient industrial and commercial lighting equipment to customers nationwide. A goal for Vista Bright Lighting was to replace Metal Halide and Sodium Vapor lights with energy efficient fluorescent lighting fixtures. Products offered for warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and street and parking lot lighting, cutting energy consumption by 50% while improving visual acuity. VISTA stands for “Virtual Intelligence Systems, Technology & Applications”. This company developed machine vision hardware and software for use in a variety of real-time applications such as automatic inspection for manufacturing process control and autonomous video surveillance. Xenacom Ltd. In the ISURP: December 2004 - November 2005 From December 2004 to November 2005, Xenacom Ltd. was a part of the research park. This company was a leading provider of software solutions and professional services for agricultural industries. They provided turnkey and web-centric applications developed for the agricultural and horticulture industries. Xen-AGRI was a trial management and traceability application for the seed industry. Xen-APIARY was a web-based beekeeping application that helps the apiarists and cooperatives manage their business all year round. Xenacom Ltd. had 2 full-time employees for the whole time they were in the park.
