They are conveniently located throughout the Pittsburgh campus close to residence halls and classrooms. Additionally, Pitt IT offers the Virtual Computing Lab for a powerful remote experience that is available 24/7 and has additional software that is not installed on the physical lab computers. By using Windows Virtual Desktop, any personal device with an internet connection can become a lab PC—regardless of the user’s location. Computing Lab Locations There are seven Student Computing Labs conveniently located throughout the Pittsburgh campus close to residence halls and classrooms. Each lab includes a mix of Energy Star certified Windows and Mac computers. There are scanners attached to select computer in every Lab and DVD drives are available in Cathedral and David Lawrence Labs. Mobile Device Charging Stations are also available that enable students to charge their smartphones and tablets. There are three easy ways to check: See the interactive lab status map below. You can click on each location to get additional information. Visit Pitt Mobile (m.pitt.edu) with your smart phone or mobile device, and select Student Computing Labs. Check one of our digital signs in the labs or around campus. Click on the tabs in the ribbon above the map to display a map with icons for one of the University campuses or Pitt Print locations (Pittsburgh campus only). Click on each map icon for more information about the computing service it represents. Computing Lab Accessibility At the request of Disability Resources and Services, Pitt IT provides the following accessibility software in our seven Student Computing Labs: JAWS screen reading software for Windows Kurzweil 3000 provides assistance for students with learning disabilities (like dyslexia) and ESL students; includes research and process writing tools, an MP3 encoder to create audio files, bilingual dictionaries and translation support, and study skills support tools Windows 10 Magnifier and Narrator All Student Computing Labs are on ground level or can be reached by elevator. There are ADA-compliant desks in all of the Student Computing Labs, and the mobile computing counters have ADA-compliant sections with lower counter space. The collaboration spaces available in the Alumni Hall Student Computing Lab are all ADA compliant. More information on accessible resources can be found on our Accessibility page. Computing Software More than 100 individual software titles are available in the Student Computing Labs on the Windows, Mac and Virtual Lab. For a full list of software on each platform, visit the software page. Computing Hardware We use modern computers in our labs to provide the best experience for our users. All equipment is regularly updated to ensure the latest software runs well. We also provide a range of peripherals to use in our labs including black & white and color printers, and portable scanners. Please see a Lab Monitor to borrow a portable device. Personal AC and USB Power: Each Lab has USB and AC power at select workstations to charge your personal devices. Student Computing Lab Classrooms: 314 Bellefield Hall and G-62 Cathedral of Learning. Reserve a classroom. External monitors for personal devices: Bring Your Own Device Areas in G-27 Cathedral of Learning and David Lawrence 230 allow you to connect your personal device to an external 27” 4K monitor for more screen space using HDMI. Please see a Lab Monitor to borrow an mini-HDMI and USB 3.0 adaptors. Dual monitor workstations: Enjoy dual 27” 4k screens on select computers in B-40 Alumni Hall,  B-06 Benedum Hall, G27 Cathedral, & Sutherland Mobile IT Resources Mobile Computing Counters and Lab The mobile computing counters are installed in four Student Computing Labs on the Pittsburgh campus and in room G-25 Cathedral of Learning. Students can work and study using their own laptop, tablet, and other mobile devices. Wi-Fi service is available at all locations and special wall outlets provide both AC and USB power. G-27 Cathedral of Learning and David Lawrence Hall also have several 27" 4K screens at the counters to connect personal devices via HDMI. Mobile Student Computing Lab: Cathedral of Learning (Room G-25) Mobile Computing Counters: Alumni Hall (Room B-40) Benedum (Room B-06) Cathedral of Learning (Room G-27) David Lawrence Hall (Room 230) Collaborative Rooms and Classroom Reservations Collaborative Rooms There are three collaborative team rooms in the B-40 Alumni Hall lab and one in 230 David Lawrence Hall lab. They enable students to share presentations on a large, centrally located display and work together on dry-erase boards that line the walls of each room. Each room has a sliding door to provide privacy for groups while maintaining a quiet working environment for individuals using computers in the lab. Team rooms can be reserved online. Open collaborative team areas are available in the B-40 Alumni Hall lab and the 230 David Lawrence Hall lab. Classrooms The classrooms are equipped with Windows PCs. G-62 Cathedral of Learning and 314 Bellefield Hall labs have classrooms available for reservation.
