Utilizing a variety of software technologies to help design, develop, and unit test applications, the Software Engineer will frequently work to resolve defects and must be capable of adapting to changing priorities. You will work within a team environment to gather requirements, participate in design reviews, implement and/or integrate new functionality, maintain and troubleshoot systems, and assist with quality assurance. Documentation is required to help train operational staff to provide support, and provide some level of direct support to end users. Purdue System Security provides computing infrastructure and services to support the identification, authentication, authorization, and security technologies needs of the campus, and provides consulting services in support of these services. The Identity and Access Management team is looking for an engineer who likes to collaboratively solve complex problems in a dynamic and challenging environment. You will use a variety of technologies to design, develop and maintain IAM solutions and processes. You will frequently work to resolve defects and must be capable of adapting to changing priorities. This position works a standard 40-hour week. System outages and special projects will require work outside these hours (night, weekends, and holidays). The team operates an on-call schedule for unplanned events. This is a remote position. What We're Looking For: Education and Experience Must have: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Technology, Computer Science, Computer Programming or related field preferred Three (3) years software design and development experience with emphasis on user-oriented software development involving software engineering skills for middleware software applications Programming experience using Java/other languages, using scripting languages such as Python or Perl, with databases or web applications Experience with operating in Unix/Linux environments Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be accepted Preferred: Experience developing applications, identity management programming, and authentication technologies such as LDAP, SAML, Radius, and MFA Experience with SQL/Oracle, web development including Java Spring Framework, JavaScript, PHP, CSS, HTML, or XML Experience working with identity and access management and other security-related applications Skills: Demonstrated skills in software architecture design, object-oriented design and development, automated build systems, regression testing techniques, and other standard software engineering practices Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of common software development methodologies Ability to diagnose complex problems and design and develop solutions Excellent oral, written and computer communication skills with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills Ability to multi-task on a variety of software engineering activities and work effectively in a deadline-driven environment Self-starting, independent thinker and worker Exceptional conceptual and analytical problem-solving abilities Preferred: Specialized skills such as middleware programming, database design/redesign, performance tuning, client-server and object-oriented programming Strong knowledge of scripting languages and web application programming Additional Information: All new hires will be expected to follow Career Path Maker Purdue University will not sponsor employment authorization for this position A background check will be required for employment in this position FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime) Retirement Eligibility: Defined Contribution Waiting Period Purdue University is an EOE/AA employer.
