Despite its name the mining dial was used in a wide range of local and estate surveying. The mining dial has two opposing slit and window sights. The silvered dial shows the four cardinal points and has a scale divided into 360 degrees marked at half degree intervals. Engraved on the dial plate is 'Adie & Son/ Edinburgh'.
