COM1003 Java Programming Assessment COM1003 Java Programming 2021/22 Autumn Semester Assessment COM1003 is taught over two semesters. This page only covers the assessment for the first semester. Each semester is worth 50% of the overall mark for COM1003. The assessments in the first semester will consist of Quizzes worth 48% of the marks for the 1st semester Assignments worth 52% of the marks for the 1st semester The standard University penalties for late hand in and use of unfair means will apply. The Quizzes There will be three Blackboard quizzes. They are open book and will each consist of 8 short questions and are designed to take 20 minutes but I will allow an extra 5 minutes for internet difficulties. They will be released in a 24 hour window; you can start any time you like within that window but once you start you must submit within 25 minutes and you will not be allowed to try again. The three quizzes are each worth 16% of your 1st semester mark so 8% of your overall module mark. The feedback and marks will be available on Blackboard within 72 hours of the close of the test window but not immediately after the quiz. Students with disabilities who get extra time in examinations will get extra time for the quiz as long as I know about them. I should receive the reports from DDSS but, to be on the safe side, you could email me to make sure I know about you. The dates of the quizzes are Thursday 21 October at 10am to 10am on the following day covering the contents of lectures 1, 2 and 3 Thursday 18 November at 10am to 10am on the following day mostly covering the contents of lectures 4, 5 and 6 but assuming you already know all the earlier material Thursday 9 December at 10am to 10am on the following day mostly covering the contents of lectures 7, 8 and 9 but assuming you already know all the earlier material The quizzes are individual assessments and any use of unfair means will be dealt with under the standard University procedures. Please be aware that passing any information about a quiz that is still in progress on to other students is a disciplinary matter even if you receive no information in return and even if the other student does not take advantage of your stupidity. The Assignments There will be three assignments and they will appear on Blackboard in the Assignment section from the left hand menu. The hand in dates have not yet been finalized because the department needs to check there are not too many deadline clashes but this should give you a rough idea. I hope they will be confirmed by the start of term.
