We have an established reputation for working collaboratively, taking disruptive approaches and risk through interdisciplinary team science. Part of Archaeology, Art, design, media and fashion, Biological sciences, Business, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematical sciences, Medicine, Psychology Our aim is to take a strategic approach to building connected networks with interdisciplinary collaboration at the heart of the life sciences community. Our mission is to facilitate fusions of expertise in research and education from a range of disciplines to broaden scientific opportunities and address key issues in health, society, and enterprise. About us An interdisciplinary research institute bringing together expertise from across the University to tackle society's challenges in the Life Sciences. Our people Our strength lies in our interdisciplinary collaborative network which is made up of over 380 academic members from across all the University’s faculties. Publications Read more about the outputs from our research collaborations and our impact. Annual report Our annual report features high impact case studies of interdisciplinary Life Sciences research. News Search our archive of interdisciplinary Life Sciences research news stories. Projects Find out more about the projects we are working on. My research centres on interdisciplinary team science, spanning the fields of engineering, medicine, biological sciences, environmental sciences and data. Professor Hywel Morgan Director of Inst for Life Sciences (Int) Life Sciences are central to our wellbeing, the economy, and the protection of an environment critical to our survival. The University of Southampton is at the forefront of approaches to address these global challenges. Our researchers are using mathematical modelling, machine learning and other algorithms to extract information and patters from large data sets to further our understanding of disease. Digital Health Our researchers are examining and developing information and communication technologies to help address the health problems and challenges faced by patients. Ecology and Evolution The Ecology and Evolution research group covers the interactions of species with their environment. Integrative Molecular Phenotyping Centre Southampton’s unique in-depth expertise in multi-omic technologies, combined with access to patient cohorts from world-leading collaborative clinical and commercial partners, aims to transform precision medicine across the disease spectrum, from cancer immunology to respiratory conditions. Interdisciplinary Dementia and Ageing Centre We are a network that brings together local expertise from across the research spectrum within the University and University Hospital Southampton. Our aim is to increase understanding of dementia and brain ageing and how to treat and care for people with these conditions. Interdisciplinary Musculoskeletal Health The University hosts a substantial interdisciplinary community of researchers working to transform musculoskeletal health across the life course. Microfluidics and Sensors Microfluidics is the interdisciplinary study of the behaviour, manipulation and application of fluid at the microscale. It underpins the concept of the lab-on-a-chip, where multiple key components and operations are integrated onto one small platform. Southampton Imaging Imaging has become an essential part of scientific research, from biomedical sciences to engineering to optoelectronics.
