It’s important for research to have a broad view, for me the excitement comes from engineering advanced materials, devices and intelligent systems for new sciences and technologies which address unmet application needs. Liudi has a BEng and MSc in Applied Physics. She received her PhD from the University of Dundee in 2002. She was appointed a RCUK Academic Fellow (Roberts Fellow)/Lecturer in 2006 at the University of Southampton, Associate Professor in 2013 and Professor in 2015. She is a Chartered Physicist, Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the IET. Professor Jiang has multidisciplinary research expertise across electromechanical sensors/actuators, advanced nanomaterials & devices, and intelligent systems. She has over 15 years’ experience in conducting research in the fields of e.g. healthcare technologies, wearable sensor systems, body interface systems, and human biomechanics. Her research interest also expands to micro/nano electromechanical systems, which is built upon novel material sciences, modelling and development of micro/nano-fabrication processes. Liudi has a proven capability to bridge across different disciplines through collaborations with some of the best researchers in the UK. She has built a broad funding portfolio by attracting over £10 M in Research Funding from EPSRC, MRC, NIHR, UKRI, British Heart Foundation, and industry. She has published over 100 papers. She is the Engineering Lead of the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Prosthetics & Orthotics. She is currently the Head of the Engineering Materials Research Group.
