Job Summary: 
Are you interested in clinical research that will improve patient outcomes in ICU patients with 
brain injuries? Are you interested to become a part of team with physicians and engineers to do 
cutting edge research and development of novel algorithms? The Department of neurosurgery at 
University of Texas Health Science Center is looking for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to be 
part of its research team. The ideal candidate is someone who loves challenges, learns quickly, 
works efficiently and can communicate effectively with others. 
Job Responsibilities 
 Conducting research projects, both independently and with others. 
 Purchasing, setting up and maintaining equipment necessary to conduct experiments. 
 Helping supervise undergraduate students. 
Minimum Qualifications:  
 Education: Required: Ph.D. in a basic science, informatics, biomedical engineering, 
bioinformatics *. 
 Work habits: Good record keeping habits and ability to handle multiple projects 
simultaneously. 
Technical Skills.  
 Candidates must have expertise in ONE of the following three areas: 
 Area #1 Clinical Research and Statistics 
  Assists faculty in the development of new statistical methodology for 
measurement and analysis of data 
 Applies advanced statistical methods, simulation models, and skilled 
statistical programming as needed. 
 Compiles, analyzes and reports statistical data for various projects 
including, but not limited to manual and computer-aided data abstraction 
and evaluation, clinical trials, computerized imaging 
 Must be skilled in the usuage of EXCEL, MS ACESS,. Statistical 
packages such as SPSS or SAS 
 Area #2 Clinical Informatics 
o Candidates must have experience with the following 
 Data mining and machine learning  
 Informatics , network theory, MySQL  
 Area #3 Clinical Big Data expertise.  
o Candidates must have experience with one of the following:  
 Coding in MATLAB or Python, R, PERL, JAVA, C/C++ would be 
preferred 
 Familiar with any big data framework such as Hadoop or Spark is 
preferred.  
 Familiarity with Visualization tools such as Tableau, D3.js etc is preferred 
This is an open position in Dr. Huimahn Alex Choi's lab; salary will commensurate with 
experience. We are an energetic, highly collaborative research group interested in applying
