Connecting to the Virtual Lab with a Mac Step 1: Download and install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Client, RDC 2.0, from http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/remote-desktop/default.mspx Clicking on the download link will take you to a new site that will allow you to choose your options for installation. Select Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.0.1 and English to begin the download. Once the download completes, an installation window will appear to guide you though the rest of the process. Continue the installation following the steps outlined by the installation program to completion. Then close the window. Step 2: Navigate to https://view.txstate.edu by typing the address into your browser or clicking on the provided link. Step 3: Enter your Texas State University user name, and password in the spaces provided and select login. You will be asked to accept incoming connections through Java. As you are sure of the validity of the Texas State Virtual Lab, allow the connection. The VMWare application will need access to your local computer resources in order to cooperatively share files. Accept its request as well. Step 4: After the installation is complete, the browser will list the labs that are available. “Distance Learning” should be the only lab listed at this point. By default, “Display” is set to “Full Screen.” Other options are “Window,” which will allow you to see and interact with your local computer while on the virtual lab, and “Multiple Monitors,” which will allow you to utilize a dual monitor set up if your local machine is equipped. Change this setting to what is most appropriate for your local machine. Small monitors will need to use “Full Screen” in order to interact fully with the virtual desktop. Large screen monitors with high resolution may be able to use the “Window” set up to their advantage. The “Multiple Monitor” option spans the screen across both monitors. People with more than one screen may choose any of the options as they feel is optimal for their working environment. Step 5: Allow VMware to connect to your local resource pool again. Step 6: Begin computing. Our virtual environment offers a full suite of applications that would not normally be available to students working at a distance. We ask that you explore this resource and report any and all feedback to your instructor. Changes will be made based on your experiences in this environment.
