Fab Lab - Melbourne School of Design Skip to main content Maker Spaces Fab Lab Fab Lab Digital Fabrication beaureu service - Laser Cutting, 3d Printing, CNC Routing About Us Our Technologies Projects & Research Contact Us Submit/Track a Job Book a Software/Fabrication Consultation Materials Commercial Job Submission The Fab Lab is an advanced digital fabrication workshop focused on aiding the model making of student work. The Fab Lab houses four laser cutters, a metal laser cutter, CNC milling machines, a 3D powder and resin printers, operated by trained technicians. Fablab's space and resources are accessible to all staff and students at the University of Melbourne to enrich ideas and technology coming together and bringing your designs to life. The FabLab operates as a bureau service where jobs submitted are processed by our skilled technicians and then collected after the job is completed. The costs involved when process a job are determined by the the materials used and the time spent processing the job. Prices below are for students of the University only. The FabLab offers free consultations for complex jobs which can be booked above, and for further informatoin about the services we offer and how to submit a job have a look at our Knowledge Base. The FabLab is open Monday to Friday, 10am - 4:30pm. Access The Maker Spaces are advanced fabrication and making spaces that require students and staff to undergo training before they can access the services and facilities. View Training Our Knowledge Base is an always-evolving collection of guides, tutorials and curated resources for you to use and engage with the technology. View Commercial Services We also offer a range of commercial fabrication services including 3D computer modelling and rendering, file to fabrication production, model making, custom products, and ready designed products. View Our Technologies Laser cutting is a process where a high-powered laser is directed by computer software to cut or etch various types of materials to create intricate 2D shapes and surface patterns to compliment even the most intricate of model designs, or iterating quickly through a series of design variables. Costs: $1/min + Material Costs Bed Size in mm: 1000L x 700W Knowledge Base Submit a Job The Kern LaserCell is a metal laser cutter which enables further laser cutting capabilities in processing laser jobs for metal and non-metal material of larger sheets, thicker materials or cylindrical stock, which either melt, burn, vaporize, or is blown away by a jet of gas, leaving a edge with a high-quality surface finish. Costs: $2/min + Material Costs Bed Size in mm: 1200L x 1200W Knowledge Base Book a Consultation Submit a Job HP Jet Fusion printed products are ideal as high quality display models, and strong, functional parts produced at an engineering grade. The strength of the material product allows for complex forms of minimum thicknesses to be produced and handled.
