R2R Electrical Components Breakdown

As shown in the figure above, there are three main electrical components of this robot: (1) power supply, (2) sensors, 
and (3) motors. 
1. DC Power supply: This robotic circuit uses a power pack of eight AA batteries to supply power to the motors 
since the motors operate on 12V. 
 
2. Sensors: There are two HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors in this robotic circuit, one at the front and one at the back of 
the robot. These sensors, connected to the Arduino board, detect objects in the robot’s path of motion and return 
reading of their distances back to the operator by printing it on a serial monitor.

VCC 5V pin of Arduino Uno Provides power supply for HC-SR04 Ultrasonic distance sensor 
Trig Digital output of Arduino Uno Triggers the ultrasonic sound pules. 
Echo Digital output of Arduino Uno Pin produces a pulse when the reflected signal is received. 
GND GND of Arduino board Connects the sensors to common ground of the circuit

3. Motors: The robot uses two 12V DC motors to support its movement. The DC motors are interfaced to an 
Arduino Uno through a motor driver. The motor driver is a controller that uses an H-Bridge to easily control 
the direction and speed of DC motors. The connections to the pins are shown in the table below.

GND pins on both sides GND of Arduino Uno Form a common ground connection for the circuit 
Output 1 Terminal 1 of the first DC motor Provides input for the first motor through Arduino 
Output 2 Terminal 2 of the first DC motor Provides input for the first motor through Arduino 
Output 3 Terminal 1 of the second DC motor Provides input for the second motor through Arduino 
Output 4 Terminal 2 of the second DC motor Provides input for the second motor through Arduino 
Input 1 Digital output of Arduino  Controls the spinning direction of first motor. 
Input 2 Digital output of Arduino Controls the spinning direction of first motor. 
Input 3 Digital output of Arduino Controls the spinning direction of second motor. 
Input 4 Digital output of Arduino Controls the spinning direction of second motor. 
Enable 1 & 2 5V of Arduino Uno Controls the starting, stopping and speed of first motor. 
Enable 3 & 4 5V of Arduino Uno Controls the starting, stopping and speed of second motor. 
Power 2 AA battery power pack Connects Arduino to external power supply required to drive 
motors.
