Please see the International Online Course Guide (PDF 1.4 MB) for courses that are offered to international students The Diploma of University Studies is designed as an alternative entry pathway to university study. In each specialisation, students study units which provide the skills and knowledge related to their intended degree and are provided with additional support to maximise their chances of success. Completion of the Diploma will provide achievement at Introductory level in up to five units. Specialisations offered in the Diploma of University Studies are Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, Health Science, Nursing Foundation Studies, Psychology, Science, and Social Work. The course is offered full time or part time. Campus, semester and attendance mode availability varies by specialisation - please refer to individual specialisations below. Course objectives Students completing the Diploma of University Studies will meet the University’s General Entry Requirements and will have guaranteed entry into specified bachelor degrees (dependent on specialisation). Learning Outcomes Apply generic skills for academic purposes relevant to your field of study underpinned by principles of academic integrity Identify, analyse, and transmit knowledge and specialised skills by learning independently and collaboratively Express ideas and perspectives for academic purposes relevant to your field of study Demonstrate a scholarly approach to communication and problem-solving skills Career outcomes The Diploma of University Studies is a pathway program for bachelor level study. DOMESTIC APPLICANTS Domestic Applicants who have recently completed secondary education - Completed the TCE (or equivalent) Please see additional requirements for the Nursing Foundation Studies stream below. Domestic Applicants with higher education study - Completed at least one undergraduate unit (equivalent to 12.5 UTAS credit points). - Completed a minimum of four University Preparation Program units (equivalent to 50 UTAS credit points). Domestic Applicants with VET / TAFE study - A completed VET Certificate III or higher Domestic Applicants with work and life experience: If you have not successfully completed senior secondary, tertiary or TAFE/VET study, but have relevant work and life experience you can complete a personal competency statement. You may be eligible for an offer if you have work and life experiences that demonstrate a capacity to succeed in this course. Additional Requirements for Nursing Foundation Studies Stream All students entering the Nursing Foundation Studies stream must either: Declare that English is your primary language (the language primarily used for reading, writing, listening, and speaking and the language known best and most comfortable with); OR Provide evidence of achieving an IELTS result of 6.5 in all bands (or equivalent in a recognised English test) This requirement is in place to ensure you are able to meet the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council English language requirements on entry to the Bachelor of Nursing. If you do not have English as your primary language you must provide evidence of achieving an IELTS result of 7.0 in all bands (or equivalent in a recognised English test) on entry to the Bachelor of Nursing. Entry quotas exist for the Nursing Foundation Studies Stream for all campuses. Applicants will be ranked by academic merit and offers made based on the number of places available. If you are not eligible for a place in the Nursing Foundation Studies stream, we will contact you to discuss alternative course options. PRE-REQUISITES Applicants for the Engineering specialisation must have prior studies and experience equivalent to a satisfactory achievement in Tasmanian Secondary General Mathematics – Foundation (MGT215114) or higher. If you have not met this prerequisite, you may be made an alternative offer for the Science specialisation. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION If your ability to access or participate in education has been affected by circumstances beyond your control, you can apply for special consideration as part of your application. We will consider a range of factors for special consideration, including economic hardship, a serious medical condition or disability. We can only approve applications for special consideration where we are confident that you have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in your studies. If your application is not approved, the UTAS admissions team will work with you to find the best alternative pathway to your chosen course. Special consideration is not available for international applicants. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS This course is currently not offered to international students. Articulation from Students who have completed study in the University Preparation Program may be eligible for credit for any equivalent units. Articulation to Arts specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Arts) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Media and Communication*, or Bachelor of Justice Studies*. Business specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Business) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Business. Education specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Education) provides guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Education (Primary) or Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education), with credit for relevant first year units (50 credit points). All applicants for the Bachelor of Education must also successfully complete the Non-Academic Capability Assessment Tool (NACAT). Engineering specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Engineering) provides guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Maritime Engineering, with credit for three units (37.5 credit points). Nursing Foundation Studies specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Nursing Foundation Studies) provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (Accelerated), with credit for four units (50 credit points). Please note that admission to the Bachelor of Nursing is highly competitive and that completion of the Diploma of University Studies (Nursing Foundation Studies) does not guarantee an offer for this course. Applicants are ranked and offers are made based on the number of places available. Health Science specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Health Science) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Nutrition Science, and provides a pathway to the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine or Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science with credit for relevant first year units (50 credit points). Psychology specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Psychology) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Psychological Science. Science specialisation The Diploma of University Studies (Science) provides guaranteed entry with full credit into a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology*, Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness*, Bachelor of Agricultural Science*, or Bachelor of Marine and Antarctic Science*. Social Work specialisation  The Diploma of University Studies (Social Work) provides guaranteed entry into a Bachelor of Social Work, with credit for relevant first year units (50 credit points). *Full credit is dependent on unit selection. Fees & scholarships Domestic students Domestic students enrolled in a full fee paying place are charged the Student Services and Amenities Fee but this fee is incorporated in the fees you pay for each unit you enrol in. Full fee paying domestic students do not have to make any additional SSAF payments.
