So whether you need an area to discuss and collaborate with peers one minute, a quiet space to read and analyse the next, or somewhere to plan and write, there’s the perfect space for you. We have created an environment that: moves away from ‘one-space-suits-all’ towards a more flexible approach ensures that you can find a suitable space for your activity provides the right mix of collaborative and quiet spaces accommodates our growing cohort of HDR students creates an environment that empowers students to build a sense of community. Standard workstations These conventional workstations are great for carrying out individual organisational or administrative tasks, and some kinds of writing. Each workstation features a monitor and power socket so you can plug in your own or UTS laptop and get started, as well as a network connection for internet access and printing. Individual pods If your task requires individual work and some concentration, these single-person pods are ideal. Their curved walls provide a level of acoustic privacy while maintaining a connection with the ‘outside world’. Each individual pod is equipped with a power socket for either your own or a UTS laptop. A handy whiteboard is also incorporated.   Meeting pods These four-person pods are designed as spaces for work groups to collaborate on projects. The curved walls provide some acoustic privacy to promote discussion and the sharing of ideas. Each meeting pod is equipped with full AV/IT, including a large, wall-mounted screen, controlled via a table console. A handy whiteboard is also incorporated for notes and ideas. Quiet rooms Single-person quiet rooms are enclosed spaces for activities that involve demanding reading, writing, reflection or analysis. Two quiet rooms also contain landline phones for work-related activities. Although the spaces are designed for quiet work, the glass walls retain visual connection with the wider workspace. Project spaces These project spaces are designed for brain- storming activities and collaborative projects that don’t require privacy or quiet.   Collaborative group spaces These are casual, open-access spaces for discussion and connection, and consist of comfortable seating grouped around small tables. Computers No desktops are available in the workspace. UTS laptops issued to HDR students in the trial group come with the required software suite. For additional programs on UTS laptops, please contact ITD. HDR students not in the trial group should bring their own device if required, and access the internet via UTS WiFi. Kitchen Located at one end of the workspace, the large, modern kitchen is the place to make a brew, rehydrate with chilled water on tap or eat lunch. It is equipped with a glass-door fridge, microwave oven and dishwasher, as well as cutlery and crockery. However, you will need to bring your own food and drinks, although long-life milk portions are provided. While the kitchen is intended as a sociable space with bar and table seating, as well as adjacent collaborative group spaces, please consider others by: Keeping noise to a reasonable level. Leaving the kitchen as you’d want to find it. Labelling food stored in the fridge with your name and date. Switching on/unloading the dishwasher and cleaning the fridge - this is a shared student responsibility. Utility area To the right of the kitchen is a small utility area with a multi-function printer that prints, copies and scans. Students should send their document to print from a workstation or quiet room, go to the printer and use the key pad to enter their student number and print. If paper or toner is running low, please contact ITD. A phone is available for internal calls.
