Eventually I realized that the list is actually a way to change the security setting from Very High or High to Medium for specific sites, rather than to all sites as I did Friday. I.e. the security prompt still appears if the JAR file is not signed with a security certificate. Do you know if accessing the applet from the author's webpage pops up security warnings? It might be signed for that site... Chad, is there any way > to get rid of the prompts to provide a clean experience for the students? Yes, I'll look into the way of white-listing specific servers like *.wisc.edu, etc. Chad. msg183 (view) Author: unks Date: 2014-02-10.15:47:17 Hi All, I'm in the 208 lab now running this applet. When first run, Java flags the applet stating: "This application will be blocked in a future Java security update because the JAR file manifest does not contain the Permissions attribute. Please contact the Publisher for more information." The author of this applet has a note on his homepage with a link that purports to contain recommended security settings. The compadre.com site that all of this stuff is linked on is extremely slow and took several attempts to load even half way. See: http://webphysics.davidson.edu/Applets/Applets.html My experience is that the applet works with the current settings, but does require clicking through several security prompts. Chad, is there any way to get rid of the prompts to provide a clean experience for the students? However I had to click "restore down" in the upper right corner for the graphics to fully appear (i.e. I had to change the size of the window). Chad. msg177 (view) Author: cwseys Date: 2014-02-07.21:17:35 After lowering the Security to Medium Jim was able to run the applet from the webpage. I changed the security settings on all the computer in the 208 lab and rebooted the computers. Hopefully all will go smoothly. I am working on making this the default setting for all lab computers. Chad. msg176 (view) Author: rzchowski Date: 2014-02-07.20:05:10 Thanks Chad, I asked Brett or Jim to take a look. You could try this: Start Menu->All Programs->Java->Configure Java Security tab Drag Security Level down to Medium. Try the applet again. I've made this adjustment on fzx32542 if someone with a moodle login wants to test. I'll go check. Chad. The error message was Missing required Permissions magnifies attribute in main jar: https://courses.moodle.wisc.edu/prod/pluginfile.php/211804/mod_page/content/23/Physlets.jar We tried both Chrome and Explorer. The TAs who had taught the course in the fall said the applet ran fine in the fall, and I have verified that it runs when I use my laptop. Apparently something has changed on the lab computers. Maybe it is some security setting somewhere? We need to have this running by the first lab on Monday (12:05pm) thanks, Mark Mark Rzchowski 5114 Chamberlin Hall Prof. and Assoc.
